Student Research

ESS seniors are required to complete a capstone experience (i.e., senior thesis or capstone project) that involves in-depth, high-quality education research under the direction of a Notre Dame faculty member.

Many of our students choose to undertake these projects in collaboration with schools and community organizations, so ESS students are regularly nominated for (and win!) the Frabutt Prize for Outstanding Education Research in the Community. This award was established by the Institute for Educational Initiatives in 2016 to recognize “the most outstanding research project by a graduating Notre Dame senior working with a Fellow or Affiliate of the Institute for Educational Initiatives.” The award places a special emphasis on recognizing education research that was use-inspired and based on needs of schools or community partners. The winner receives $500 and so does their community partner!

Meet our current ESS students and recent graduates.
